Carnival - a dance sport with acrobatic feats
Carnival, or guard dance, originated in France and can be traced back to the entertaining ballet performances at the courts of many European royal houses. In these performances, scenes were danced, sung or acrobatically performed. Accompanied by a chorus and dressed as if at the court of the Sun King. From there, ballet found access to the bourgeoisie and finally to carnival.
Carnival dancing has now matured into a recognized dance sport, with diverse step combinations, acrobatic interludes and lifting figures, especially in mixed guards. It demands from the dancers highest concentration, a good condition as well as coordination and unconditional confidence among themselves. This demanding sport thrives on cleanly executed dance and lifting figures, flowing movements and acrobatic interludes.
